“Zryw” is a true legend of the local waterfronts and one of three yachts (alongside “Dar Szczecina” and “Urtica”) owned by the City of Szczecin. This nearly 11-meter Taurus-class yacht was designed by the masters: Kazimierz “Kuba” Jaworski and Czesław Gogołkiewicz.
Born to win: The Taurus class was created in 1978 at the famous Leonid Teliga Marine Yacht Shipyard with one thought in mind: it has to be fast. “Zryw” is an extremely maneuverable, yet demanding design – it’s a yacht with “character”. It does not forgive late reefing (reducing sail area); in strong winds, it becomes so unruly that the struggle to maintain course can be extreme. The crew learned this the hard way in 2002, when during a storm near Bornholm… they broke the rudder.
A veteran in top form: Although the yacht celebrated its 45th anniversary in 2023, it is still an active player on regatta courses. As a regular participant in The Tall Ships Races (including the 2024 and 2026 editions), it proudly represents the Szczecin ensign in international waters, proving that classic wooden yachts still have that regatta fire inside them.
