Planeta I

Planeta I is one of the most modern technical vessels sailing under the Polish flag. Although it is not a sailing ship, its powerful and distinctive silhouette always commands immense respect at the Szczecin quays. It is a ‘special task vessel’ of the Maritime Office in Szczecin.

Planeta I is a specialized multipurpose ship that daily ensures navigational safety in the territorial waters of the Republic of Poland and the coastal zone. It was built in 2020 at the Remontowa Shipbuilding yard in Gdańsk as one of two sister ships (alongside the sister vessel ‘Zodiak II’ serving Gdynia).

Planeta I is a true ‘Swiss Army knife’ at sea. Its main tasks include maintaining navigational aids (deploying and servicing buoys), conducting hydrographic surveys, and supporting rescue services. If necessary, the ship can serve as an icebreaker, an oil spill response vessel, and even a firefighting ship.

The vessel is equipped with a modern diesel-electric propulsion and a dynamic positioning (DP) system, which allows it to maintain a steady position on the water with centimeter accuracy, even in harsh weather conditions. Its powerful deck crane can lift weights that the crews of classic ships can only dream of.
