They sailed down the Vistula, the Noteć, and the Warta, finally reaching Szczecin. A group of travelers has just joined The Sails and became part of the tall ship family.
A few minutes past noon, two special vessels appeared on the Oder – an electric catamaran with two teenagers on board, and a canoe with a lone adventurer. These were the vessels eagerly awaited by city officials, liaison officers, and the media. After several weeks on the rivers, the brave sailors reached their destination and could now celebrate their success with us. Their journeys began in Gdańsk – the high school students from the Tri-City set off in early July, while the adventurer from Szczecin started in the second half of the month. Along the way, they passed through Bydgoszcz, Czarnków, Gorzów Wlkp., and Kostrzyn before finally arriving in the capital of West Pomerania.
The crew of the catamaran consists of high school students from Gdańsk – both juniors and seniors. Not all of them are passionate sailors, but they share a love for building and challenges. They built the catamaran from scratch, often using recycled materials. Both the design and construction of the vessel were carried out entirely by the students of High School No. 5. Their project is aptly named “From Scrap to Szczecin.”
A similar route was completed solo by Bogusz Borkowski, a Szczecin native, who embarked on his “sea to sea” journey at the end of July in Gdańsk, covering nearly 700 kilometers on inland waterways. Szczecin is just one stop on his adventure – right after The Sails he will continue his voyage to Świnoujście.
