Antica was built in 1953 in Ustka, after which she sailed as a fishing cutter for 27 years. In 1980 she was bought by Jerzy Wasowicz with plans to convert her into an ocean-going yacht. After a ten-year major overhaul, rigging and outfitting, the yacht, under the owner’s command, sailed from Gdansk in the summer of 1991 and made a six-year round-the-world expedition (1991-1997). During the voyage she traveled 60,840 nautical miles, calling at ports in 36 countries. For this expedition she was awarded the Third Prize of the “1997 Cruise of the Year” competition and the “Conrad” award for 1997. The second expedition took place in 1998 – 2000, during which Antica conquered Cape Horn and circumnavigated South America.
