Sails is a Sustainable Event
Sails is not only a celebration of sailing, but also an example of how fun and environmental responsibility can go hand in hand. Guided by the principles of sustainability, we implement solutions that promote ecology, social responsibility, and the local economy.
- Instead of buying bottled water, we provide water decanters in the exhibitors’ offices, as well as in the organiser’s and press offices. Additionally, we offer water dispensers where visitors can refill their bottles.
- On the event grounds, drinking fountains and hydrants are available for direct use or for refilling water bottles.
- Public transport is the most sensible and reliable way to reach the heart of the event. The frequency and number of services are increased during the event. Crew members can use city buses and trams free of charge. Furthermore, the City is cooperating with railway operators to allow public transport tickets to be honoured on trains within the Szczecin metropolitan area.
- We do not waste food — uneaten meals from the event catering are donated to a local food-sharing initiative.
- Each year, we reduce the use of plastic at our event — not only to comply with EU directives, but also as a result of our ongoing efforts and cooperation with exhibitors, who are gradually switching to more environmentally friendly tableware.
- We strive to ensure accessibility for people with disabilities, allowing them to move freely around the event site and board the vessels. By prior arrangement, dedicated services will provide assistance to facilitate full participation in the sailing festival. Holders of disabled parking permits can also use a special parking zone located much closer to the stage. Dedicated viewing areas near the stage feature paved surfaces and are free of architectural barriers.
- At the Visit Szczecin stand, staff members communicate in Polish Sign Language, in addition to Polish, German, and English.
- We work with local companies and suppliers to support local businesses.
- All our informational materials, maps, and the event programme are available online, significantly reducing the need for printed materials.
- We strive to provide our staff with versatile clothing that can be reused.
- Over the years, we have significantly reduced the production of large-format advertising banners. Instead, we use printed mesh banners featuring the event programme and map.
