Originally named \u201cNjord\u201d, she served as a steam lugger for herring fishing in the North Sea. Over the decades, she underwent numerous modernizations \u2014 in 1930 she was lengthened, and in 1952 the steam engine was replaced with a diesel engine.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>A new chapter in her history began in 1989, when she was purchased by the Dutch shipowner Jaap van der Rest. The vessel underwent a thorough conversion into a luxury passenger sailing ship. The name \u201cLoth Lori\u00ebn\u201d comes from the works of J.R.R. Tolkien and refers to an elven realm, literally meaning \u201cBlossoming Dream\u201d.
