HMS Gladan is a two-masted schooner owned by the Swedish Navy that has served as a training vessel for many years. Together with her sister ship HMS Falken, they form a pair of identical sailing ships designed to train future officers and sailors in seamanship, teamwork and life at sea.
The sailing ship was built in 1947, at the behest of the then King of Sweden, as a successor to the older training vessels Najaden and Jarramas. Since then, Gladan has actively participated in training programs and international sailing ship rallies, where it is held in high esteem.
HMS Gladan is not only a military unit, but also an ambassador of the Swedish naval tradition. Her elegant silhouette and white sides are recognizable in ports throughout Europe. Participation in regattas and sailing ship shows is an important part of the Swedish Navy’s international promotion.
